The film is based on the true story of Oakland A’s General Manager, Billy Beane’s attempt to put together a successful baseball club by employing computer-generated analysis to get the best, and cheapest, players for his team.

You may recall this film was initially due to begin production around this time last year, under the direction of Steven Soderbergh. Due to the financial climate at the time, Columbia Pictures got cold feet and put the film into turnaround.

It was resurrected again this year with Bennett Miller (Capote) now on board as director, and Pitt (who was originally cast by Soderbergh) is back as Beane.

This film be a hard sell for UK fans unfamiliar with the in’s and out’s of the game, but with Jonah Hill, Robin Wright and Philip Seymour Hoffman rounding out the cast, I’m sure this will enough to attract a decent size audience.
