With an all-star cast led by Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, and Sam Riley, Walter Salles’ On the Road has been primed for a 21st December release in the US, in the height of the Oscar season this year.

The States is one of the last countries to see the film, having already been released here in the UK and throughout much of Europe, and with its US release now on the horizon, EW have debuted the excellent final one-sheet, giving us a new take on the posters we’ve seen already.

“After the death of his father, Sal Paradise, an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty, a wild and infectiously charismatic ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined to avoid the pitfalls of a narrow, prescribed life, Sal hits the road, joining Dean on what evolves into a life-changing physical and emotional odyssey. Thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, the ecstasy of experience, the connectedness of humanity and ultimately themselves.”

The leading trio are joined by a terrific supported cast, headed up by Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Alice Braga, Elisabeth Moss, and Viggo Mortensen.

Salles has reunited with the Oscar-nominated Jose Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries), with the latter penning the script, adapting the classic Beat novel by Jack Kerouac.

On the Road will be released in the US on 21st December, in perfect position for the awards season. The film is already in theatres here in the UK, and with plenty of buzz surrounding it, you’ll be sure to want to seek it out as soon as you can. For now, here’s the final US poster, which you can click to enlarge.
