The Master PosterPaul Thomas Anderson’s The Master has long been one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and it’s just a few days away from heading to both Venice and Toronto next month.

We got an excellent new clip from the film last week, and now a fantastic second trailer has been released over at IMDb, giving us all the more reason to believe this is going to be another fascinating film from the writer-director, and quite possibly one of the best films of 2012.

“Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Thomas Anderson (the acclaimed director of, There Will Be Blood, Magnolia and Boogie Nights), this story stars Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) and Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line). Set in America in the years following World War II, a charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization and taps a young drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the one time vagabond finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor. A truly one-of-a-kind drama, which promises magnetic virtuoso performances, the film marks the fifth collaboration between Anderson and Hoffman, following Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love.”

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, and Amy Adams lead the impressive cast, alongside Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshovsky, with Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood (There Will Be Blood, Magnolia) composing the score.

The Master will be given a limited US release on 14th September, followed by opening wide a week later on 21st September. Here in the UK, it will reach the big screen on 9th November, and we can’t wait. This has all the markings of genius, and here’s the brilliant new trailer to prove it.
