The new year kicks off with a bang, as Robert Zemeckis returns with Welcome to Marwen, a unique and creative piece of cinema that celebrates the individual. We had the immense pleasure of sitting down with the director himself – of course renowned for the likes of Back to the Future and Forrest Gump – while also chatting to the film’s two leading stars, Steve Carell and Leslie Mann.
The two cast members touch on what it was like to work with Zemeckis, and all three share their thoughts on working on a film that celebrates our quirks and differences, and doesn’t judge. Carell also talks about the joy in acting and understanding the world around him, while they all tell us about their own personal collections of toys they’ve never quite been able to throw away. Naturally, Zemeckis has quite the collection. The director finishes by talking about the creative inclination of the project and whether even at his standing in the industry, whether he still needs to convince studios to take a risk on his style of filmmaking.
Watch our interviews for the film right here:
When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation—a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one. In a bold, wondrous and timely film, Welcome to Marwen shows that when your only weapon is your imagination…you’ll find courage in the most unexpected place.
Welcome to Marwen is released on January 1st
