To celebrate the release of Power Book II: Ghost, the eagerly-anticipated spin-off from the hit show, we sat down with another of its eclectic cast to find out all about the new show.
Picking up shortly after the original show ended with Tariq St. Patrick (Rainey Jnr) grapples with a new world order: his father dead and his mother, Tasha, facing charges for the murder her son committed. Not to mention the academic rigors of the Ivy League university Tariq is attending to earn his inheritance. Truly on his own for the first time in his life, Tariq is forced to split his time between school and hustling to pay for his lawyers. Along the way, Diane (Tonodeo) enters the fray and the drug operations change them forever.
Speaking to us, both Rainey Jnr and Tonodeo talk to us about the challenges of bringing life to a spin-off and keeping it “Power” while also making it its own beast, as well as the unique challenges for them both as actors and their love of the characters they portray. They also talk about working with its amazing cast, including Mary J. Blige and Method Man, amongst others.
