The film marks her second role in a big, mainstream Hollywood comedy (she featured in rom-com No Strings Attached earlier this year), but Gerwig is also known for her work within the independent ‘mumblecore’ film movement in the US, where, as well as appearing in front of the camera, she’s also performed writing and directing duties.
