Carol Morley’s film Dreams of a Life enters UK cinemas today on a wave of acclaim for its telling of the death and life of Joyce Vincent, who was discovered in her home after having died three years earlier.

If you don’t know the story behind Morley’s film it is well worth reading her piece in The Guardian which I read before I knew much about the film and I was intrigued. The story was fascinating, haunting and, in the end, uplifting. Most impressive is the deliberate move away from an exploitative and ghoulish cautionary tale (which in lesser hands it could easily have become) to a message of hope, and a call to arms.

Over the next few days there are a number of London screenings of the film, expanding to other cities in the following days. Carol Morley is doing Q&As after select screenings and if you go to the website you can book tickets and request your city to be added to the list of potential expansion.
