Love Sonia is a bold piece of filmmaking that explores the cruel, devastating world of sex trafficking, and to mark its release we spoke to the film’s director Tabrez Noorani, as well as the stars – and icons of Bollywood – Freida Pinto, Mrunal Thakur and Richa Chadha. We discussed with them the film’s striking commitment to authenticity, and just how much of a challenge it was to shoot, and to create. Meanwhile Pinto also talks about the lack of good roles for women in Hollywood, particularly those from different cultures.

Synopsis

The film is the harrowing account of two sisters robbed of their innocence when one is sold by her debt-ridden father, and the other follows after her in the hope of rescuing her but becomes trapped in the flesh trade herself. While on troublesome and challenging journey that takes us through the red light areas of Mumbai, the latent innocence in the younger sister and the grit to rescue her sister and eventually herself stays intact.
