Ex_Machina is in cinemas now and if you’ve not seen it yet, we very much urge you to. It comes from Writer / Director Alex Garland (he wrote Dredd, 28 Days Later, The Beach and Sunshine – not bad eh?!) and it’s one of the most intriguing films you’ll see this year.

In this exclusive featurette, Garland and VFX Supervisor Andrew Whitehirst talk us through the character of Ava (played by Alicia Vikander), a robot who you’ll end up falling in love with! This featurette looks specifically at the technology behind how Ava was put together and what Vikander brought to the role. For the geeks out there, we also get to hear how previous conventional robots were completely ignored while designing Ava and how the likes of Formula One and high end concept bikes were examined to create what we see in the final movie. Huge kudos has to be given to Digital Effects house DoubleNegative who were able to create something so wonderful.

If you missed it, our 5* review of the film can be seen here and all our coverage of the movie including interviews with the cast are up here.
