arrietty french poster 2In adapting Mary Norton’s The Borrowers the talented hands of Studio Ghibli crafted a magnificent and moving film with Arrietty.

Pleasingly the film was very well received and marked a fine debut for director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who was a key member of the animation department under Miyazaki’s old and young with early work on Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away paving the way for a more senior animation role for Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and Ghibli’s latest Kokuriko-zaka kara (From Up on Poppy Hill).

Arrietty is released today on Blu-ray and DVD, and we’ve got a lovely (and lively) exclusive clip for you. Featuring the voices of Tom Holland (soon to be seen with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts in Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible) as Shô and Saoirse Ronan as the diminutive heroine Arrietty.
