To celebrate the release of Disney’s new film Patrick, we had the pleasure of meeting the leading star himself, the pug Harley. Naturally, he didn’t say an awful lot, but thankfully he was sat next to the film’s real lead, Beattie Edmondson. We spoke about everything pug with the actress as well as the film’s director Mandie Fletcher.

Edmondson – who is the daughter of British comedy legends Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson – discusses her initial connection with Harley, and what it was like collaborating with a pug. She also told us whether the pair have stayed in touch, and what it is that makes dogs such special companions.

Fletcher also spoke about the challenges of directing a pug, and what a joy it was to have Edmondson on board, and why she felt compelled to convince Disney to take a chance on this talented newcomer. The director, who has been at the helm of shows such as Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses and Absolutely Fabulous, tells us why she loves directing comedy, and recalls a specific moment involving Rik Mayall that she remembers fondly.
