The success of Maleficent and Cinderella has inspired Disney to give the green light to a number of live-action adaptations of many of their most beloved cartoons, but among the most bizarre has to be the origin story of iconic 101 Dalmations villain Cruella de Vil.

After all, it’s hard to figure out how a Disney movie can address how she would end up intent on killing over 100 dogs to make herself a fur coat and why they think her early years are something anyone would want to know more about. Isn’t it enough that she’s just a despicable villain? Apparently not as the project has now become a priority for the studio!

With plans in place to shoot later this year, The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Emma Stone is now said to be in talks to play Cruella de Vil in Cruella, a movie which was written by Kelly Marcel. A director has not yet been attached and a release date also hasn’t been announced yet.

Cruella de Vil first appeared in the 101 Dalmations cartoon in 1961 and was later played by Glenn Close in the live-action adaptation in 1996. Stone will next be seen in Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, in which she reteams with Crazy, Stupid Love co-star Ryan Gosling.
