Elysium-PosterWith so many blockbusters to choose from this summer, it’s sure to be more difficult than ever to choose a favourite. But I have a very good feeling that Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium will be topping many lists come season’s end.

The footage we’ve seen from the film so far has been beyond impressive – you can check out the latest trailer here – and we’d expect nothing less from the director who made his debut with the outstanding District 9.

With less than a month to go before the film hits cinemas in the States, Sony have released a new motion poster over on moviefone, along with six pieces of concept art.

The impoverished inhabitants of a ruined planet Earth fight to join the safe and pristine living conditions of the space station Elysium, where only the wealthy and healthy reside. In need of medical treatment only available on Elysium, one resident of the planet’s slums attempts to reach the space station at any cost, and his actions could offset the entire balance of haves and have-nots.

Matt Damon takes the lead atop an excellent cast, starring alongside Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and Faran Tahir.

Blomkamp directs from his own script once more, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) serving as producer.

Elysium will be released in regular and IMAX theatres on August 9th in the US, with its UK release date thankfully brought forward from its previous September date to 23rd August. I can’t wait. And in the meantime, here’s the new motion poster, along with half a dozen pieces of concept art.
