Elizabeth Olsen, Sundance-favourite in the last two years, has had a brilliant rise to fame since her debuts last year at the independent film festival with Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House.

The former of the two saw its release in the UK earlier this year, and now the latter is due to get its release in just under two months’ time, having opened at the US box office this past weekend.

“SILENT HOUSE is a uniquely unsettling horror thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen as Sarah, a young woman who finds herself sealed inside her family’s secluded lake house. With no contact to the outside world, and no way out, panic turns to terror as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house. Directed by filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, SILENT HOUSE uses meticulous camera choreography to take the audience on a tension-filled, real time journey, experienced in a single uninterrupted shot.”

We’ve seen a number of great things from the film already, and Yahoo Movies bring us this new clip introduced by Olsen herself in promotion of the film’s debut in US cinemas on 9th March – so if you’re living out in the US, you should be lucky enough to have this in a theatre near you already.

The idea of a single-take film (choreographed to feel like that, rather than actually shot in a single take) sounds good to me, and definitely has potential to increase the tension and anticipation in a genre like horror, so I’m completely on board and eagerly awaiting its release this side of the Atlantic.

The film is inspired by a true story (as so many horror films are) and is an adaptation of the original Uruguayan film, The Silent House, with Open Water collaborators Chris Kentis and Laura Lau co-directing from a script by Lau, who makes her directorial debut with this.

Silent House is in cinemas in the US right now, and will be released here in the UK on 4th May. For now, here’s Elizabeth Olsen to introduce you to a short clip from the film – no spoilers here, just a little setting up of the story.
