British actor Eddie Redmayne nabbed an Oscar for his take on Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, but we now have a first look at yet another role which might see him back in awards contention next year.
He’s set to reunite with Les Miserables director Tom Hooper to play Einer Wegener/Lili Elebe in The Danish Girl. The film tells the story of one of the first men to undergo sex reassignment surgery and focuses specifically on the relationship between Elbe and his wife Greta (played by Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander).
She became a famous artists thanks to her paintings of her husband in drag, and the way the operation changed their lives will be the focus of the movie which also stars Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts.
The Danish Girl has been in the works for a number of years, and a variety of actresses (including Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron) were considered for the role now taken by Redmayne. It’s obviously going to be very interesting to see what the actor delivers here, especially off the back of his recent awards wins.
There’s no confirmed release date as of yet, but The Danish Girl is expected to reach us later this year!
