Dylan O’Brien has officially signed on to lead Hulu’s upcoming comedy pilot ‘Lex,’ taking on the title role in the high-concept series that blends satire, conspiracy thrills and reality television culture.

The project was first announced in March when Hulu handed the pilot an order, with O’Brien now confirmed to star as Lex, a fallen reality television personality whose attempt to earn money through personalised video messages spirals into a life-or-death adventure.

According to the official logline, Lex is “a disgraced former reality star who accidentally films a murder in the background of a $20 Cameo video, and finds himself at the centre of a global conspiracy and on the run from powerful forces who want him dead. Using the skills he acquired navigating reality TV’s toxic social dynamics, Lex must fight to not get killed, to expose the truth, and most importantly… to get back on TV.”

The series continues by revealing that Lex must rely on the unique survival skills he developed while navigating the toxic world of reality television.

In addition to starring, O’Brien will also serve as an executive producer on the pilot, marking another significant behind-the-scenes role for the actor.

The project comes from writer and executive producer Sean Clements, while Paul Simms also executive produces. 20th Television will produce the pilot.
