From the 2017 Toronto Film Festival we present the press conference highlights for Alexander Payne’s Downsizing. The film was co-written by Payne and Jim Taylor and stars Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Brigette Lundy-Paine, James Van Der Beek and Hong Chau. Which is a pretty fine cast.

Telling the story of a who guy realizes he would have a better life if he were to shrink himself. It follows an occupational therapist who undergoes a new procedure to be shrunken to four inches tall so that he and his wife can help save the planet and afford a nice lifestyle at the same time.

Introducing the origin of the film during the press conference the director talks about finding the key to adapting the idea when he decided to do it ‘in a super realistic – even quasi-political way’, to which Damon concurs. He calls it a ‘humanistic, hearfelt movie that, for me, is very optimistic.’

The film is released on the 22nd of December in the US.
