Doug LimanA little over two months ago we reported that director Doug Liman was abandoning his Three Musketeers project, no doubt to avoid a clash with Paul W.S. Anderson’s own 3D swords and moustaches epic, and the grapevine had it that he was about to sign up for All You Need is Kill, a Groundhog Day/Starship Troopers yarn, adapted from the 2004 novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka by Dante Harper.

Now it seems the grapevine was right and Liman will follow up Fair Game with this film, the synopsis of which lies below,

In All You Need is Kill, a soldier pressed into battle against a superior alien species, gets killed in action, and relives his last day alive over and over. Eventually, he sees things change, he becomes a better warrior and discovers hints that might be the key to altering the outcome.

So, comparisons with Duncan Jones’ Source code aside, looking at Liman’s previous form leads us to Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper and The Bourne Identity so indications are that he’s the man for the job of an action adventure with a time bending twist. More news as we get it, and while I’m disappointed that his next project won’t be Attica, I’ll be very pleased if this in some way halts production on a Jumper sequel.

Variety spake thus.
