It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange turning up in Marvel’s Infinity War. After all, it is the glorious battle royale/hero handover that the studio and Kevin Fiege have been building to for almost a decade.

The Russo Brothers are following up their sterling work in Captain America: Civil War with the two part ‘series finale’ movies, which go into production next month. Fiege himself confirmed to CBM that Strange and other Illuminati characters would be appearing in the forthcoming third Avengers film.

“What’s fun about the Illuminati is seeing certain characters interact with certain other characters. I don’t know about that particular storyline, but some of those characters we’ll be seeing together onscreen in the next Avengers… We’re taking it one step at a time. Benedict puts on the cloak once again early next year in Infinity War.”

Those who know the comic books well are aware that The Illuminati comprise Strange, Iron Man, and other esoterically-inclined characters – some of whom (Professor X and Mr. Fantastic) are owned by rival studios. We may not get to see the full complement in Infinity War, but it does suggest we may see this society grow in important to the MCU as they move beyond Phase 3.
