Dexter Season 6 hits DVD and Blu-ray today and I was very pleased when I got sent the series to review as it’s still my favourite show on television. Season 6 opens recapping on the majority of the previous five seasons scanning between the main villains which include John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits as we’re guided through the reasons why Dexter (Michael C. Hall) has become the way he is and the struggles that he’s gone through while we’ve known him across the past 6 years.

If you’re not familiar with the TV show ‘Dexter’, it’s a rather crazy premise in which Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) plays a  blood splatter expert in the Miami Police Department. This job gives him access to finding the worst of the worst criminal in the Metro area where the show is set. Dexter has a dark side though and through a rather unique childhood, has grown up as a serial killer using his position in the police to find those criminals and bring them to justice in his own way. He  has a very strict code that he follows to the letter and will only kill those who he knows has committed one of multiple crimes.

Season 6 is just as compelling as the previous five seasons with the usual rather crazy storylines where Dexter rids the world of other serial killers while filling his own need to kill. Each season has a prominent bad-guy in amongst other lesser baddies. Season six spices it up giving us two baddies for the price of one and has a couple of familiar faces playing the constant bad-guys in the shape of Edward James Olmos who many of you will know as William Adama from Battlestar Gallactica and Colin Hanks who we’ve previously seen in TV show Mad Men and he was also in Peter Jackon’s King Kong.

This season kicks off with Dexter attending his 20 year High School Reunion party on the hunt for someone who he believes committed a deadly crime a few years prior which during the party has Dexter doing the MC Hammer ‘Hammertime’ dance which is worth watching all it itself! As the dance is happening, the main season’s story unfolds with Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks using rather interesting methods to kill their victims which involve rather a lot of snakes! As well as Michael C. Hall, the series also bounces in and around storylines of other permanenent members of the cast Jennifer Carpenter, C.S. Lee, Desmond Harrington, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas and James Remar.

I don’t want to say too much more at the risk of spoiling the series but suffice to say, if you’re a fan of the previous five series, then this you’ll definitely enjoy this one. You can order your copy of Dexter Season 6 right here or rent it on LOVEFiLM here.
