Music has always been integral in the work of director David Lynch. From the brooding, jazz-infused scores by regular musical collaborator Angelo Badalamenti, to the innocent Americana pop ditties juxtaposed with scenes of a disturbing and menacing nature, Lynch has always managed to conjure up an evocative atmosphere through his soundtracks.

It may come as little surprise then, that the filmmaker’s debut album, Crazy Clown Time, is due for release on these shores on November 8th, via the UK’s very own Sunday Best label.

In the past Lynch has guested on various music projects (the most well-known of those being the Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse team-up, Dark Night of the Soul) but this is the first time he presents himself as a solo artist with the 14 self-produced original songs on the album, of which he plays guitar and sings.

Deadline are reporting that Lynch has described his musical endeavour as “modern blues”, but for anyone who heard the recent singles from the album, Good Day Today/I Know (check out the blistering Sasha Remix of the latter track) there’s more to these songs than that rather trite explanation.

Although many fans are undoubtedly still waiting in anticipation of any news of his next cinematic project (his last was 2006’s Inland Empire) they’ll be able to indulge their love of this distinctive auteur in one medium, at least.
