Dan Stevens is set to take on one of science fiction’s most iconic roles, with the actor cast as the title character in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming ‘Robocop’ TV series.
The series, which Prime Video originally announced in July, has now received an eight-episode order. The project has been in development since Amazon’s 2022 acquisition of MGM, bringing the classic franchise back to the screen in a new television format.
According to the official logline: “A giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer (Stevens).”
Stevens will therefore play the fallen officer whose consciousness is transferred into the powerful robotic law-enforcement machine, putting a new spin on the central concept of the original franchise.

The series comes from writer, executive producer and showrunner Peter Ocko. James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will executive produce through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, while Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, the co-creators and co-writers of the original Robocop film, will also executive produce.
Danielle Bozzone of Blumhouse Atomic Monster will serve as co-executive producer and oversee the project for the company. Amazon MGM Studios will produce the series.
First released in 1987, ‘Robocop’ has become a landmark of science-fiction cinema, following police officer Alex Murphy after he is brutally killed and transformed into a heavily armed cyborg law-enforcement officer. The new series appears set to retain the franchise’s core idea of technology, policing and human consciousness while taking the story in a fresh television direction.
