Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s an exciting piece of news from Deadline that the husband and wife producing team of Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas have begun meeting with possible directors to take on the new Superman adaptation.

The names being mentioned are our very own Tony Scott, Matt Reeves (who is getting some great buzz at the moment for his US version of Let The Right One In), Moon’s Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman (who has Battle: Los Angeles on the way) and Watchmen’s Zack Snyder.

Hmmmm. With perhaps the exception of Scott (not sure if his bombastic style would be right for this project) this is an interesting line-up, and it’s reassuring that Warner Bros are looking at visual artists who all possess their own distinctive style, and that the studio is also considering a couple who haven’t had the experience of working within the realms of big-budget Hollywood filmmaking before.

We’ll keep you posted when we hear who has finally been chosen for the job.
