This weekend at Wondercon, during The Sorcerer’s Apprentice panel, Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that he had the same team who worked on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro (Miro worked on both) are already working on the script for a third installment of National Treasure. Un fortauntely I didn’t get that quote on video but I got loads more.
It seems that Jon Turteltaub who directed the first two movies will also return as director after his jokes @Wondercon (my footage here – panel video 2:30) but no confirmation yet as to whether Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger and Jon Voight will all be back but it wouldn’t be a National Treasure without them. During the panel for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Jon Turteltaub also makes a joke about whether Teresa Palmer would appear in National Treasure 3 after she forgot to mention him during the ‘who she liked working with’ section (2 minutes in – panel video). Could this be a hint that she is actually already in the movie?
You may wonder why a third movie is on the cards as the second one wasn’t quite as good as the first but earned $347.5 million worldwide, but the sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets actually earned a lot more bringing in $457.4 million worldwide. Seems like a nice little earner for Disney.
More info as we get it.
