Hollywood is about to get a taste of high society, scandal, and soufflés. Cate Blanchett is set to step into the impeccably polished shoes of Martha Stewart in the upcoming biopic ‘Good Thing.’
Directed by Janicza Bravo, best known for her visually striking work on ‘Zola,’ the film will chronicle Stewart’s extraordinary rise, dramatic fall, and enduring reinvention in the world of lifestyle media.
During the 1990s and early 2000s, Martha Stewart wasn’t just a household name; she was the household. Her Emmy-winning television series ‘Martha Stewart Living’ became a cultural staple, blending cooking, crafts, and aspirational living into a glossy, must-watch package. The show shared its name with her wildly successful magazine, which peaked in 2002 with over 2 million copies per issue.

Her business empire, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, went public in 1999, catapulting Stewart into history as the first self-made female billionaire in the United States.
Following a controversial stock sale involving ImClone Systems in 2001, Stewart became the focus of a federal investigation. She had sold shares just before the stock plummeted 16%, allegedly after receiving insider information from her broker, Peter Bacanovic. Stewart denied wrongdoing, but the legal storm intensified.
In 2004, after a highly publicised trial, she was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and making false statements to investigators. Stewart ultimately served five months in prison followed by two years of supervised release, a fall from grace that captivated the public and reshaped her legacy.
‘Good Thing’ is penned by Ricky Tollman and produced by Blanchett alongside Coco Francini under their Dirty Films banner. Additional producers include Randy Manis and Neil Dodson.
