The Three Musketeers seems to being given a similar treatment to that of Robin Hood in that it doesn’t go too long before being remade by someone or other! When I was growing up, I used to love watching the 1973 version which starred Oliver Reed (he went to my school!), Richard Chamberlain, Frank Finlay, Christopher Lee and Michael York. Then came along The Four Musketeers with the same cast. It was compelling viewing! Moving slightly further along the time line, we had Dogtanian and the Three Muskahounds – and it was such a great memory for me that I now have vol.  on DVD! Now we move to 1993 where a a-list cast which included Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O’Donnell, Oliver Platt and Tim Curry came along for another bash at the movie.

OK, so you get the picture that this movie has been done quite a bit. So why do it yet again!? THR’s Heatvision Blog have some casting news on the Paul W.S. Anderson version of the movie which will not only be yet another remake but will be done in 3d!

According to THR, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen (who coincidently also appears in Robin Hood – my review here) will play the title characters while Logan Lerman will play D’Artagnan – the man who dreams of becoming a Musketeer. The casting news continues with Oscar winner Christoph Waltz cast as Cardinal Richelieu and Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort. And here’s the kicker – Orlando Bloom is set to play the Duke of Buckingham. Oh and to give his real-life wife some work, Anderson has cast Milla Jovovich, as Milady de Winter, who accordig to the THR, is a former love of Athos who is described as “17th century Bond girl.” – A 17th Century Bond girl?! Is anyeone else scared by what this may turn out like or is it just me?!

THR end the story telling us of another Musketeers movie which is being made by Warner Bros. It’s a funny old world we live in!
