If you happened to have been one of the few who saw 2008’s Superhero Movie (really?), you may know Fisher as one Tom Cruise. For everyone else, the impersonator was probably last encountered on either TV’s Gossip Girl or Mad Men, his other credits including the short film Pinkberry: The Movie.

While it is obviously ill-advised to trend-spot when only a single actor has been cast, this does nevertheless suggest that writer Eric Heisserer might be going for a more mature group of survivors. This would be more in keeping with Final Destination 2, easily the franchises best offering, and solve many of the key problems with the last, but not indeed final, installment.

I do have a soft spot for the series, and hopefully Quale will take number 5 in a slightly different direction. The one dimensional characters and lacklustre 3D will hopefully be replaced with believable relationships and a furthering of the mythology so tantalisingly glimpsed in the first three Final Destination films. For now though, we can only await further casting news and the August 26, 2011 release date.
