Pixar’s sequel machine is working overtime at the moment. With follow-ups to both The Incredibles and another Toy Story in the works the news that Cars 3 was coming in 2017 was not a surprise.

Their recent sequel, Finding Dory, was a great example how the studio capture lightning twice although the critical consensus has been that the Cars series has never been Pixar’s greatest moment. Let’s hope Cars 3 turns that around.

Owen Wilson returns as Lightning McQueen but from the looks of things the plucky red car is heading for the scrapheap. Say it ain’t so. Or do, we don’t mind.

Behind the wheel (camera) this time we have Brian Fee, who served as a storyboard artist on both Cars and Cars 2. Producing the film is Kevin Reher  whose La Luna Pixar short remains one of the best things the Emeryville studio have ever done.

Cars 3 is released in the UK on the 14th of July, 2017.

Cars 3 Teaser Trailer

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
