Well, this is an impressive bit of casting news for Lionsgate’s Power Rangers reboot! While the team itself is made up of mostly unknowns, we already know that Elizabeth Banks will play the villainous Rita Repulsa, but now Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has joined the cast as Zordon. To say his involvement here is a surprise would be a huge understatement!

In the original series, Rita trapped Zordon in a time warp thousands of years ago, but his robot assistant Alpha 5 was able to communicate with him and build a base from which the hero could mentor his newly recruited Power Rangers as a holographic floating head of sorts.

Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), the Power Rangers reboot has a long list of screenwriters which includes John Gatins (Kong: Skull Island), Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold), Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class), and perhaps most surprisingly, Max Landis (Chronicle). That’s a lot of different cooks in the kitchen!

Power Rangers stars Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger. The movie is currently set to be released on March 24th, next year.

The mighty #Zordon has officially been cast! Please welcome #BryanCranston to the #PowerRangersMovie – Coming in 2017.
