The Newsroom posterAaron Sorkin’s return to television is all but a certainty to be one of the best things to happen to the small screen this year. Scratch that: since he brought us Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

The anticipation has been high ever since the show was first announced – it always will be when you’re dealing with Sorkin – and then along came the first trailer at the start of last month and raised the bar that much higher.

Adding to that, HBO have put out a great new promo ahead and the first poster for the show of its debut next month, with the poster bearing the awesome tagline that was originally to the programme’s name, ‘More as this story develops.’

““The Newsroom” is a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.”

With Jeff Daniels in the lead, supported by an impressive cast featuring Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn, John Gallagher, Jr., Thomas Sadoski, and Sam Waterston, you just know that this is going to be some of the finest television we’ve seen in a long time.

The Newsroom will premiere on Sunday, 24th June at 10 p.m. on HBO in the US, and is set to come to the UK later this year on Sky Atlantic. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long, because this is sure to be brilliant, television at its best. Here’s the trailer to prove it. And as usual with the poster, you can click to enlarge.
