With just months left to go until Pixar release Brave this summer, we’ve seen some fantastic things recently from the film, getting a terrific new clip just a few days ago of the lead character, Princess Merida, showing off her impressive archery skills.

Pixar aired the first TV spot for their next animated feature during the Oscars on Sunday night, and now we have that same brilliant spot to share with you, via Collider.

Co-directed by Mark Andrews (head of story on The Incredibles) and Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), the film features a wonderful voice cast that includes the likes of Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, and Craig Ferguson.

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).”

If you missed that new clip we saw last week, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. The animation is of course incredibly impressive, and it gives a brilliant feel of the strong independence we can look forward to in Merida.

Brave is due out in 3D on 22nd June in the US, and then towards the end of summer here in the UK on 13th August. And it should have the Academy Award-nominated short, La Luna, attached to it, and I can’t wait for either. For all our coverage of Brave, you can click right here. (And you can click here to do the same for La Luna.)
