Bong-Joon HoBong Joon-Ho, the acclaimed director responsible for The Host and Mother, will head the International Feature Film Competition Jury at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, it has been announced.

Joon-Ho will be accompanied on the jury by actress Natalie Dormer (Captain America: The First Avenger) and leading film critic Siobhan Synnot.

The trio will determine which film wins Best Film in the International Competition from a selection that highlights the quality filmmaking going on outside of the UK.

EIFF Artistic Director Chris Fujiwara said of the news: It’s a huge honour for our festival to have Bong Joon-Ho, one of the greatest filmmakers, as Chair of the jury for our International Feature Film Competition.

It was also revealed today that the festival will feature two country focuses in the form of Sweden and Korea, allowing UK audiences the chance to see new films from both Swedish and Korean filmmakers.

The 67th Edinburgh International Film Festival runs from June 19 – 30. The full programme is expected to be announced on May 29 at a press conference in Edinburgh.

Bong Joon-Ho’s latest film, Snowpiercer, is scheduled to be released later this year. It is unclear at this time whether it will be screened in Edinburgh.
