A Blade Runner sequel has been rumoured for years now, with the vast majority of the movie’s fans unsure whether the sci-fi classic needs any sort of follow-up which would potentially ruin what’s come before. However, with Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) at the helm and a cast which includes Ryan Gosling and a returning Harrison Ford, it sounds pretty great.
Now, the first concept art from the sequel has been revealed, and while it doesn’t reveal much about the plot (that remains a closely guarded secret), it has been revealed that the sequel will pick up decades after the events of the first instalment in Los Angeles. However, we’ll see quite a bit more of the West Coast this time around, and things have changed!
“The climate has gone berserk — the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” Villeneuve says. That’s evident from the concept art which shows a snow blower hovering over the streets.
Original director Ridley Scott will be serving as an executive producer on the Blade Runner sequel, while director of photography Roger Deakins will be reteaming with Villeneuve. The movie is currently set to be released on October 6th, 2017, so stay tuned for updates!
