With Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” currently being showered with countless accolades and awards for the likes of Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director it’s perhaps fitting that we should take time out to appreciate the film’s stunning FX work. And in an age where CGI is overly abundant, overused and over obvious it’s even more applaudable that Aronofsky and the team at LOOK EFFECTS created such seamless FX work that watching the film it’s nigh on impossible to tell what’s CG and what’s not.

With that in mind Fox Searchlight have recently released this short video that highlights many of the major FX sequences within the film from such simple fare as removing crew members from the shot and cleaning up the set to compositing, green screen work, head replacement and Natalie Portman’s animated CG wings. With the film containing 240 visual effects shots it’s all highly impressive stuff and begs the question why did the Academy not see fit to nominate the film for Best Visual Effects alongside the likes of “Inception”, “Harry Potter” and, god forbid, the crass CGI overkill of “Alice in Wonderland”?
