After what seems to have been a pretty woeful year for Ben Affleck, he looks set to get straight back on his feet as he enters early talks with Sony to direct war movie Red Platoon.
Based on the memoir by Clinton Romesha, Red Platoon tells the story of the Battle of Kamdesh which took place during the War in Afghanistan. On Oct. 3, 2009, more than 300 Taliban fighters launched a pre-dawn raid on Outpost Keating, a remote and controversial American outpost near the Afghan-Pakistani border, overrunning its perimeter defences and breaching its wire. Staff Sgt. Romesha, a husband and father of three children, planned and led a small band of soldiers in a counterattack against seemingly insurmountable odds, saving dozens of American lives, and ultimately receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions.
The war movie could very well see the Affleck brothers teaming up once again. It could be the first time since Gone Baby Gone, as word on the street is that Casey is also a target for the studio to play the lead role. Affleck certainly seems to have had more success behind the camera than in front with Gone Baby Gone, The Town and the Golden Globe winning Argo, however, his last Live by Night wasn’t one of his best. If the deal is pulled off, Red Platoon would be Affleck’s first directorial effort outside of the Warner Bros family.
The Legend of Tarzan screenwriter, Adam Cozard has penned the most recent draft of the film, George Clooney and Grant Heslov would be producing for Smokehouse Pictures alongside Josh Bratman from Immersive Pictures.
