In some most surprising news, ‘The Flash’ helmer, Andy Muschietti, has confirmed that the upcoming film will feature 2 former ‘Batmans’ with Ben Affleck returning to the role for the project.

With Michael Keaton already confirmed to return as ‘Batman’, during an interview with Vanity Fair, Muschietti went on to reveal Affleck’s involvement stating that his role is far from just a cameo.

“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

Muschietti also revealed a little more detail of what to expect from the movie, explaining that time travel plays a big part in how both Keaton’s Batman and Affleck’s are able to star with Barry going back in time in order to save his mother from being murder which results in him altering the future.

“This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we’ve seen before are valid. It’s inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you’ve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse.”

Andy Muschietti is helming the new project with Ezra Miller reprising his role in the story loosely based on the time-travelling Flashpoint comic storyline. Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson will pen the script.
