We know that Henry Cavill is soon to try on the iconic red and blue of Superman and therefore much anticipation has been building for his starring role in Immortals, principally to see whether he can carry a film, possesses lashings of charisma and can handle hefty action sequences. The answer to all of these seems to be a resounding “Yes!” at least if this first trailer for Tarsem Singh’s latest outing is anything to go by.

Although it is easy to get sucked in by lustrous visuals and sweaty pectorals, this seems to be more than just a 300 knock-off, albeit very much of that style. The film seems to be blessed with thrilling set pieces and well-structured action-beats, although we have been caught out before by well-wrought trailers for lacklustre final products. It all depends on the tone, characters and story. Will they draw us in and cause us to care? Or will it all look very pretty but leave us feeling unengaged?

Call me cautiously hopeful. Enjoy the trailer below, along with a new shot of Henry Cavill, in action as Theseus.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
