Anthony Mackie has been deservedly rising to recognition brilliantly in recent years, with strong supporting roles in the likes of The Hurt Locker, The Adjustment Bureau, and Real Steel.

His upcoming slate includes Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Ruben Fleischer’s highly anticipated Gangster Squad (the trailer for which landed this month), and Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain.

Deadline now report that the young star is now in talks to join crime-thriller Runner, Runner alongside leading men Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, which already sounds like something to look forward to in itself.

“The drama revolves around the world of offshore online gaming and an increasingly tense relationship between a business founder and his protege.”

Brad Furman, who made waves last year with The Lincoln Lawyer, will be back behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by frequent collaborators Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Rounders, Ocean’s Thirteen), with Leonardo DiCaprio producing under his Appian Way banner.

Definitely has a lot of potential.

Mackie was last seen earlier this year in Man on a Ledge alongside Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, and Jamie Bell, and will be back on the big screen this summer and autumn in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and (potential Oscar nominee) Gangster Squad.

Production is set to begin on Runner, Runner next month, so we’ll hopefully be able to look forward to this in mid-2013. I can’t wait.
