In this post / video we get to look specifically at a chase scene The Dark Knight (TDK). In the scene, film critic, Jim Emerson explains why a lot of the direction and editing and ‘visual grammar’ is actually very bad using easy to follow audio descriptions and simple arrows. TDK is one of the top grossing movies of all time bringing in over $1bn. This would suggest the movie was very good (and In my opinion it was) but after you’ve watched this you’ll start to see that it actually has a fair few flaws even in just this one scene. Emerson is doing a three part series called ‘In the Cut’ and this is part one. Part 2 should follow shortly. It’s 20 minutes long but will give you great insight and clarity into what critics mean when they say a movie is incoherent.
Have a watch of the video below and let us know what you think in the comments section below. Thanks to Brendon Connelly from Bleeding Cool for the heads up on this on this great video and we’ll look to put other two parts up when they hit.
