To celebrate the release of Disobedience, the new film from acclaimed filmmaker Sebastian Lelio, we sat down the with director and one of his stars, Alessandro Nivola, to talk about the film which opens in UK cinemas this weekend.

Lelio, whose previous film A Fantastic Woman won an Oscar back in February, came on board the film after star Rachel Weisz, who is also a producer on the film, brought the idea to him as well as the book the film is based on by Naomi Alderman. Disobedience tells the story of Ronit (Weisz), a woman as she returns to the Orthodox Jewish community that had cast her out many years prior because of her attraction to a childhood friend Esti, played by Rachel McAdams. Now decades on, the two have reconnected, despite Esti being married to Dovid (Nivola), and both their sexuality and faith are tested in the face of the community around them.
