Alden Ehrenreich is revving up for his next major movie role, with the actor set to join Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Universal Pictures’ upcoming crime thriller ‘Miami Vice ’85.’
Sources say Ehrenreich has landed a role in the high-profile project, which is an original feature take on the classic 1980s television series ‘Miami Vice.’ Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘F1,’ is directing the film from a screenplay by Dan Gilroy.
Set against the glamorous but dangerous backdrop of mid-1980s Miami, ‘Miami Vice ’85’ will explore the era’s collision of wealth, crime, corruption and excess. The movie is inspired by the pilot episode of the landmark Universal Television series, which became a cultural phenomenon and helped redefine the look and sound of television, from fashion and music to cinematography and production design.

Ehrenreich joins a cast led by Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. The role he will play has not yet been revealed.
The original ‘Miami Vice’ was created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Yerkovich and Michael Mann. Gilroy’s screenplay is based on characters created by Yerkovich, with Eric Warren Singer having previously written an earlier draft of the script.
‘Miami Vice ’85’ is produced by Dylan Clark through Dylan Clark Productions, alongside Kosinski. Production is expected to begin later this year.
Universal has set ‘Miami Vice ’85’ for an IMAX release on May 19, 2028.
