For an actor, playing the part of a famous historical figure has often seen as high integrity gold, but few could have predicted this.

Over the coming fortnight, a plethora of talent – ranging from the established to the comparatively unknown will be screentesting for the chance to play the title role in none other than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

With Adrien Brody, Benjamin Walker, James D’Arcy, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Josh Lucas all stepping up for the part, it’s clear to see that the project is in high demand, despite – or perhaps because of – its delicious absurdity.

Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith novel (who also wrote the script), 20th Century Fox’s blood soaked tale is a re-imagining of the respected President’s biography that functions by adding the minor detail that old honest Abe was in fact a skilled vampire slayer, determined to take revenge on the ghouls after they took his mother’s life.

Set to be directed by Timur Bekmambetov (who cut his fangs on Night Watch) and produced with help from Tim Burton and Jim Lemley, the film has drawn no shortage of big names and is slated to be released in Summer 2012. Only in Hollywood.
