David-O.-RussellDavid O. Russell has finally found solid ground in cinema and now, having enjoyed three consecutive successes with American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Fighter, the Academy Award-nominated director/writer is making his first foray into television.

Russell has teamed up with Erin Brockovich writer, Susannah Grant, to create a drama about the upstairs/downstairs happenings at a private country club.  Although not much more is known about the new ABC series, the upstairs/downstairs setup already calls to mind the popular British drama series, Downton Abbey.

Susannah Grant has  ventured into television before with her series, A Gifted ManRussell’s latest film, the impressive American Hustle, has been nominated for ten Academy Awards in this year’s competition, following last year’s Silver Linings Playbook receiving eight nominations. With his place now cemented amongst Hollywood’s brightest, it will be interesting to see how Russell will make his mark in television, a format which, arguably, is currently experiencing a Golden Age of storytelling.
