Gangster Squad Character Poster – Ryan GoslingDue out in the New Year, Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad has one of the finest casts in recent memory, with a terrific leading quartet in Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, and Sean Penn.

Originally set for release back in September, but then delayed to allow for a scene to be reshot in the wake of the shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises over the summer, the film is now heading into theatres in January, and the anticipation is riding on high.

The official trailer (following the re-launched campaign) landed last month, and since then we’ve seen a handful of terrific character banners and posters, as well as most recently a full banner for the film. And following on from all of them comes another set of nine character posters, giving us a look at all of its leading cast (this time, including Nick Nolte).

“Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.”

Gosling, Stone, Penn, and Brolin star alongside a terrific cast, headed up by Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña, and Robert Patrick.

Fleischer (Zombieland) is directing from a script by Will Beall (Castle, the upcoming Justice League movie), based on Paul Lieberman’s original seven-part article in the LA Times.

Having made such a great name for himself with Zombieland and 30 Minutes of Less, both very much situated in the comedy genre, we’re really looking forward to seeing what Fleischer does here in a period action/crime/drama.

Gangster Squad is set for release on 11th January, 2013, in the UK and US, and that date can’t come fast enough. It’s going to be a brilliant way to start the New Year in cinemas, and I can’t wait. For now, here’s the new set of character posters, which you can click through to enlarge.
