Won't Back DownMaggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis star in Won’t Back Down, a based-on-a-true-story film that sees them playing two mothers determined to transform the state of their children’s failing inner-city school.

The promising first trailer landed earlier this month and had that strong inspirational feel that the Academy often quite likes, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see their names circling the Best Actress category later this year.

The film’s official Facebook has released seven new images (one of which has surfaced before in a lower-res version) giving us a look at the leading ladies and their children.

“Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis play two determined mothers, one a teacher, who will stop at nothing to transform their children’s failing inner city school. Facing a powerful and entrenched bureaucracy, they risk everything to make a difference in the education and future of their children.”

Daniel Barnz (Beastly) is directing from his own script co-written by Brin Hill, with a supporting cast headed up by the ever-brilliant Oscar Isaac, Holly Hunter, Rosie Perez, and Ving Rhames.

Won’t Back Down will be released in the US by 20th Century Fox on 28th September, and as yet no word on a UK release date, but given the strong cast and the probability that it could be an awards contender, I’d imagine that that we’ll have a date for you soon. For now, enjoy these new images, which you can click to enlarge.
