300:-Rise-of-an-Empire-Poster-sliceReturning to the franchise so brilliantly begun by Zack Snyder, 300: Rise of an Empire will take us back millennia to a battle fought at the same time but on a different stand, bringing the legendary Frank Miller’s work to life on the big screen once more.

Lionsgate has released the first US TV spot for the upcoming sidequel, promising a new trailer will be landing online tomorrow morning on the Pacific Coast, hitting at 6pm UK time.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Sullivan Stapleton leads the ensemble this time around, with Eva Green opposite in the female lead. Rodrigo Santoro and Lena Headey reprise their roles from the first film, with Hans Matheson, Jack O’Connell, Andrew Pleavin, Callan Mulvey, and David Wenham starring alongside them.

Noam Murro (Smart People) is at the helm in Snyder’s place, directing from a script Snyder co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad (300).

300: Rise of an Empire will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on March 7th in the UK and US. Whilst we eagerly await the new trailer, here’s the first TV spot promising bloody vengeance. Enjoy.
