300:-Rise-of-an-Empire-Poster-sliceWith just a few weeks to go before we return to the world introduced to us on the big screen by Zack Snyder, Warner Bros. has launched the main theatrical poster for the upcoming blockbuster sidequel, 300: Rise of an Empire.

The first two trailers were pretty epic in scope, promising all-out action with no hesitation for featuring a healthy dose of bloody brutality. And this new poster builds on that nicely, and will no doubt be drawing audiences in looking for a little action come March.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Sullivan Stapleton leads this time around as the Greek General Themistokles, with Eva Green opposite in the female lead as Artemesia. Rodrigo Santoro and Lena Headey reprise their roles from the original 300, with Hans Matheson, Jack O’Connell, Andrew Pleavin, Callan Mulvey, and David Wenham completing the cast.

Noam Murro (Smart People) directs from a script co-written by Snyder and Kurt Johnstad (300), adapting Frank Miller’s graphic novel, Xerxes.

300: Rise of an Empire will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on March 7th in the US and UK. For now, here’s the main theatrical poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
