John Hillcoat’s Lawless is one of the most anticipated films of the year, coming out of Cannes with strong reviews last month – you can read our own here.

The awesome first trailer hit back in April, and now three new images have made their way online, giving us a new look at some of the leading cast.

Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, and Jason Clarke star as three brothers, with support coming from Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Dane DeHaan, and Noah Taylor.

“LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”

John Hillcoat (The Road) is directing from a script by Nick Cave, who wrote Hillcoat’s The Proposition, with Cave adapting the original novel by Matt Bondurant, The Wettest County in the World, which was originally to be the film’s title.

Lawless will be released by The Weinstein Company in the US on 29th August, before coming to our shores a little later on 7th September. With such strong talent involved, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this on the awards long- and short-lists later this year, so I’d definitely recommend catching it in cinemas when it hits this autumn. As usual with these new images, you can click to enlarge.
