Last night, we were treated to an amazing first look at Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim with the release of the first trailer.
Warner Bros. are very much looking like the studio to beat when it comes to summer blockbusters next year, with both Pacific Rim and Man of Steel in their roster.
With the first trailer now unleashed, we’ve had three epic new posters sent over for del Toro’s latest return behind the camera, each giving us another look at the immense difference in size between the Jaegers and us humans.
“When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.”
Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman lead an excellent cast, with del Toro directing from a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans).
Warner Bros. have already set Beacham to write a script alongside del Toro for a sequel, and it looks like we could have an awesome franchise to look forward to in the years to come.
Pacific Rim will be hitting hard next summer in 3D and IMAX 3D in the UK and US on 12th July. We cannot wait. For now, here are the awesome new posters, which you can click through to enlarge.
