After taking a bit of a backseat on the action in Man of Steel this year, we’ve got more to look forward to from Kevin Costner next year, with the actor taking centre stage in McG’s 3 Days to Kill.

Due out in February next year, Relativity has launched the first trailer and poster for the action-thriller over on Yahoo Movies, teasing a look at Costner embracing the dark side.

In this distinctive action-thriller, Kevin Costner plays an elite government hit man who after receiving news that he has a terminal disease, decides to give up his high stakes life to finally build a relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he’s previously kept at arm’s length to keep out of danger. But when his agency offers him an experimental, potentially life-saving drug in exchange for one last mission, it’s an offer he can’t refuse – even if it means juggling his two toughest assignments yet: going after the world’s most ruthless terrorist and caring for his daughter for the first time in ten years while his wife is out of town.

Amber Heard and Hailee Steinfeld complete the leading trio, with the latter playing Costner’s on-screen daughter, and Connie Nielsen heading up the supporting cast.

McG (Terminator Salvation, This Means War) is directing from a script co-written by Luc Besson and Adi Hasak (From Paris With Love), with Besson producing under his EuropaCorp banner.

3 Days to Kill will be released in the US on February 21st, 2014. No word yet on a firm UK release date, but here’s to hoping it will be arriving soon after the Valentine’s weekend on our shores as well. For now, here’s the first trailer and poster to get you in the mood.
